PATTERSON — A man bitten by a rattlesnake Monday had to walk more than a mile and a half through town before he found someone who would help.
The man in his 50s, whose name was not available, was collecting aluminum cans along the Sperry Road offramp of Interstate 5 in the afternoon when the snake bit him on the ankle, said Patterson Fire Department Capt. David Hohl.
The man walked along Sperry looking for help and finally called police at the CVS pharmacy because, Hohl said, "it was the first place that someone lent him a phone."
The man was conscious and talking when an ambulance arrived to take him to a Modesto hospital. Hohl said he is expected to recover.
