Modesto JC men's tennis team win 8th in a row

The Modesto Junior College men's tennis team dominated Sacramento City College Friday 9-0 for its eighth straight win. Luis Velazquez and Freddie Matthews were perfect in their singles matches with 6-0, 6-0 victories. Austin Tay was nearly perfect at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

• MJC WOMEN — Angela Roso took a straight-sets victory for the Modesto JC women's tennis team at No. 1 singles as the Pirates swept all singles matches en route to an 8-1 win over Sacramento City.

Track and Field

Tyler Lamott won the hammer (180 feet, 6 inches), Stephen Thayer won the 200 meters (22.06 seconds) and the 4x100 relay team of Thayer, Matthew East, DeShawn Craig and Eric Adorno grabbed a third victory for the MJC men's track and field team at the Bob Rush Invitational at San Mateo College.

The MJC women's track and field team got wins in the hammer from Cara McClain (173-11) and the 4x400 team of Morgan McFaddin, Alyssa McFaddin, Sarah Mayfeld and Olivia Muse Amiel. Becky Hobby ran 4:52 in the 1,500.

Baseball

Cal State Stanislaus (7-21, 4-17 CCAA) scattered 10 hits and tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning before No. 13 Chico State scored three times in the bottom half of the eighth.
