• FFA FIELD DAY

When: Saturday, 7:30 a.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College, east campus, 435 College Ave., and west campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave.

Info: The 60th annual FFA Field Day, hosted by the Modesto Junior College Agriculture & Environmental Sciences Department and Young Farmers, will feature more than 1,500 high school students from more than 100 high schools who will compete in 18 agriculture-related contests. • SPRING HIKE

Where: American Legion Hall, parking lot, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave.

Info: The Sierra Club will host an easy, four-mile spring hike along the Tuolumne River. No sign-ups are necessary and nonmembers, dogs and children are welcome. For more information, call Alan at (209) 768-5881.

• BACKYARD COMPOSTING CLASS

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon

Info: The city of Modesto and Modesto Junior College Community Education are partnering to present a free backyard composting class for city residents. Nonresidents are welcome with a $35 tuition fee. Advance registration is required. To register or for more, call (209) 575-6063.

• VFW BREAKFAST FUND-RAISER

When: Sunday, 8 to 11 a.m.

Where: Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 1405 E. Linwood Ave.

Info: The VFW Military Order of the Cootie, Pup Tent 68, will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast fund-raiser. Breakfast will include scrambled eggs or eggs made to order, pancakes, sausages, biscuits and gravy, country potatoes, juice and coffee. Cost: $6 donation, no cost for children 6 years or younger.
