MODESTO -- Sylvan trustees will interview superintendent candidates Friday and Saturday.
The daylong closed-door sessions will not result in a selection announcement, board Vice President David Collins said. "This is long days of discussion and questions," he said. "There will definitely not be any announcement."
The north Modesto elementary district's Superintendent John Halverson will retire June 30.
The meetings are being held at Davis Park Church. Collins said that was done in part to avoid disrupting district office operations Friday, and in part to allow greater confidentiality for applicants.
While candidates will not have to file past district office workers, the meeting place must be announced and accessible to comply with Brown Act open meeting requirements.
Another bit of business will be conducted in open session Friday. The board will vote on a $29,500 contract with Ace It! Sylvan Learning Center for seventh-grade tutoring services.
The Sylvan Union School District Board will hold special meetings beginning at 8 a.m. at Davis Park Church, 901 W. Rumble Road. See the agendas at http://bit.ly/11kffqw.
