I was disappointed Sunday when I drove down Ninth Street from the Carpenter-Briggsmore overpass. The previous Sunday I had joined volunteers from the ShadowChase running club to clean up Ninth for the upcoming marathon. We picked up a huge amount of garbage. Afterward, I drove down Ninth and was impressed by how nice and clean it was. I say "was" because when I drove down it a week later, there was quite a bit of new garbage. Now when the family and friends of the more than 3,000 runners wait for the runner to pass by, they'll get the impression we don't care about our town or how it looks to visitors.
Please, people, use a litter bag in your car and throw it away when you get home. The streets of Modesto are not a dump.
