Army reservist dies in Los Banos hit-and-run

LOS BANOS -- An 18-year-old Army reservist was killed in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend in Los Banos.

Fernando Buenrostro died in a Modesto hospital Sunday after suffering major head injuries Saturday night, said police Cmdr. Ray Reyna Jr.

Police received a report of a hit-and-run near Cardinal Street and Fairmont Drive at 7:41 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found Buenrostro lying on the ground.

He had been hit by a truck while driving a motorized scooter, police said. Witnesses told authorities the truck was a white Chevrolet or Ford. No license plate number was released.
