Modesto search ends in arrest

MODESTO -- A man suspected of casing a northeast Modesto neighborhood was arrested early Sunday in the back yard of a home in the 1900 block of Mable Avenue, police said.

Jesse Brooks, 34, of Modesto was arrested on possible charges of evading police and resisting arrest.

He also had outstanding warrants, police said. At 4:20 a.m., a resident reported seeing a suspicious person in a slow-moving car near Kentwood and Beyer Park drives.

A patrol officer spotted the vehicle 30 minutes later and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off, police said.

Officers pursued the vehicle to the end of Veranda Court, where the driver got out and jumped over fences, the report said.

Officers searched the area and arrested Brooks.
