More power to diversity! Even the Republicans are going to try to get Latinos, Asians, blacks and women to support them. How are we doing in Stanislaus County? Let's see. The five county supervisors are white men. The county superintendent of schools is a white man. The county sheriff, the assessor and the tax collector — three more white men. The district attorney and voter registrar are women, but they are also white.

How about our judges? We have 24 in the county. One is Latino. One is black.

According to the census, Stanislaus County is almost 50 percent nonwhite. I guess the Voting Rights Act doesn't apply to glass ceilings.
