Reading time, twominutes:

• If the Ravens' Joe Flacco was the Super Bowl MVP and signed the big contract, why is the 49ers' Colin Kaepernick (Turlock) scoring all the big media gigs?

• Could it be that Kaepernick's coolness factor outweighs everything else?

• The Seahawks acquire Percy Harvin only to see the 49ers trump it a few hours later with Anquan Boldin. It seems Jim Harbaugh's life-mission is to stalk Pete Carroll.

• Smart move by the 49ers. Boldin can't beat them anymore.

• 49er fans will miss Delanie Walker's versatility. They won't miss his hands.

• And speaking of bad hands: Farewell, DHB (Darrius Heyward-Bey).

• The Raiders' unloading Heyward-Bey and Michael Huff means a further cutting-of-ties with the late Al Davis.

• Dan Gonsalves' funeral was attended by many Modesto city coaches and administrators. A well-deserved tribute.

• Methinks local sports fans don't totally comprehend the degree of the feat: Israel Saavedra, Modesto High freshman, state wrestling champion.

• When you work your way through the family fortune while running a franchise into the ground: The Maloofs.

• Pacific's Bob Thomason (Escalon, Turlock, Columbia, Cal State Stanislaus) will finish his first-class career in the NCAA Tournament. Sounds right.

• The Tigers' first NCAA appearance since 2006 will spice Selection Sunday, which usually doesn't need much spicing.

• Bracket genius Joe Lunardi says Cal is in good shape for a berth, but the Golden Bears should be nervous.

• Wishing a good rehab to last year's Sac-Joaquin Section Masters long jump champion Shea Taylor (Grace Davis), who suffered a torn ACL while competing in her first pentathlon for BYU.

• Colgate coach Matt Langel, who watched his prospect John Fenton (Central Catholic) score 28 points in his final game: "He's got a bright future with us. Hopefully, he'll bring performances like that to Hamilton (NY)."

• The California Community College basketball finals will wrap up today at Cosumnes River. The team missing is the Fresno City men (two titles in the last six years).

• The NCAA Tournament won't feel the same without the late Rick Majerus, a basketball genius and a very complex man beyond the TV jokes.

• San Jose State's George Nessman was fired two years after he accomplished the near-impossible — a winning record for the Spartans, with all due thanks to Adrian Oliver (Modesto Christian) and Justin Graham (Ripon).

• You could feel the Giants' braintrust fretting through that Santiago Casilla (Dominican Republic) pitching to Angel Pagan (Puerto Rico) at-bat during the WBC.

• Wonder how that WBC Final Four will play in San Francisco without the Americans.

• Tim Lincecum sans the hair won't look right until he starts winning.

• Just re-read that stat and it's still amazing: 15 walkoff hits last year by the Athletics.

• Fans don't realize that the Kings' DeMarcus Cousins is just misunderstood over ... and over ... and over ... and over ... zzzzzz.

• The NFL may abandon the "tuck rule." Raider Nation, you may now raise your torches and pitchforks and storm the castle.

• Just a hunch: Kaepernick would give up that chat with Michelle Obama for a TD on that last set of downs in New Orleans.
