4 suspected burglars arrested

MODESTO -- Modesto police arrested four suspects Thursday after responding to a call of a burglary in progress in the western part of the city.

According to Lt. Jeramy Young, a resident in the 400 block of Colorado reported a burglary in progress at 2:20 p.m.

Responding officers stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the burglary and took three young men into custody.

A fourth, later identified as George Brito, 19, ran off. Authorities found him hiding in a nearby house. Officers arrested Brito, Jair Medina and Sergio Maldonado, all 19 and from Modesto, and a fourth suspect on burglary charges.

Young didn't identify the final arrestee because he didn't have his age and he could be a minor. Police recovered jewelry and other items stolen in the burglary.
