TURLOCK - The Turlock Certified Farmers Market will shift a block to the south, giving it a larger and safer space to grow.

On Tuesday the City Council unanimously approved a new tow-away zone that would accommodate its new home. The market begins its fourth season May 3 at its new location along South Broadway, from West Main to A streets. Previously it also ran along Broadway, but straddled the busy downtown thoroughfare of Main Street to extend to West Olive Avenue.

Former Market Manager and current Market board member Brandon Follett said the move both gives them a bigger space – the distance from Main to A is larger than it previously had – to allow for future expansion and is more pedestrian and car friendly.

“Location has been a perpetual issue for a few reasons,” he said. “We currently operate on either side of Main Street and have people constantly crossing. It’s definitely caused dangerous situations on many occasions. This alleviates traffic issues and allows everything to flow smoothly.”

The council unanimously approved the new tow-away zone. The Friday market will run from May to October, with four special night dates again this year on June 7, July 5, Sept. 6 and Oct. 25. For more visit www.turlockmarket.org.
