Denair Unified trustees will vote tonight on a contract with school support staff. School bus drivers, custodians, secretaries and others tentatively have agreed to a 3.5 percent pay cut for the second half of this year.
There are caveats to the deal, however. Teachers also must take the cut, and no support staff will be laid off or lose hours through June, according to agenda documents.
The board also will vote to seek a retroactive waiver to combine two of the district's community schools. Denair received money for three this year, but in practice, the middle grades and high school operate together. The change will cost the district an estimated $100,000.
In other items, the board will:
Hear an update from the fiscal expert hired to help bring its budget back in line
Consider hiring a collections agency to help it recover facility use fees from community groups that held events on school property but have not paid their bills
Vote on a request to the Stanislaus County Office of Education for help covering cash shortages through the end of the year. Superintendent Ed Parraz said the district will need $695,000 to pay bills until delayed state payments arrive.
The Denair Unified School District board will meet at 7:30 tonight in the district boardroom, 3460 Lester Road, Denair. Find agenda and exhibits at http://bit.ly/DenairUnified.
