-- A 17-year-old boy died Tuesday night in a collision in Turlock.

According to police, the accident happened just before 9 p.m. at West Monte Vista Avenue and North Walnut Road. A Nissan Sentra heading east on Monte Vista turned left onto Walnut and into the path of an oncoming Cadillac Escalade. The Escalade broadsided the Nissan.

The Stanislaus County coroner's office identified the boy who died as Alex Miranda of Turlock. Miranda was riding in the back seat of the Nissan. Two other people in the car suffered injuries; police said they were not life-threatening. The occupants of the Escalade were not hurt.

Police have not identified the other people involved in the accident, but said a woman was driving the Escalade and a 19-year-old man was driving the Nissan. The other passenger in the Nissan, a 23-year-old man, suffered major injuries.

Officials said drugs, alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors in the collision. The traffic light on Monte Vista was green.
