United States women's national team midfielder Carli Lloyd is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks after fracturing a bone in her shoulder.

Lloyd sustained the injury in the second half of a 3-0 win over Iceland in the Algarve Cup, and she has missed the team's last two games while undergoing tests.

An MRI has since revealed the extent of the problem, which will not require surgery, but will prevent Lloyd from participating in the first month of the season for the Western New York Flash of the new National Women's Soccer League, which begins play in April.

"Although it's an unfortunate circumstance, I've been through injuries before and have come back even stronger," said Lloyd. "I'm disappointed that I'll be missing some national team events and some league games, but as soon as my shoulder allows, I'll be back and ready to compete."
