-- A Modesto man convicted of attempted murder after he tried to kill his wife was denied parole for the sixth time, Stanislaus County District Attorney Birgit Fladager said in a news release.

Antonio V. Montano, 56, had a parole hearing in Avenal Feb. 27. A jury convicted Montano of attempted premeditated murder with the use of a knife and infliction of great bodily injury in the 1994 attack on his wife of 16 years.

He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. He will be scheduled for another parole hearing in 2016.
