-- The Modesto Junior College baseball team still waits for its first Big 8 Conference victory.

The Pirates' search continued without reward Tuesday afternoon as San Joaquin Delta (13-3, 3-1) banged out 17 hits en route to a 9-1 victory.

Modesto (7-8, 0-4) trailed 4-0 after three innings and avoided a shutout during the fourth when Kyle Perez's bases-loaded walk brought in Gino Franceschetti.

Jesse Foster and Kyle Robinson had two hits apiece for the Pirates, who will entertain the Mustangs on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Softball

• PIRATES BEATEN — Modesto rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh but left the tying run in scoring position and fell 6-5 to Santa Rosa at the MJC West Campus field.

Roxy Corella's two-run single and an RBI double by Micayla Laupua gave the Pirates (6-15, 0-3) a chance.

Men's Tennis

• MJC WINS — No. 1 singles Alex Jackson and Austin Tay rallied from a 3-0 deficit to a 9-7 victory for the Pirates (7-3, 4-1), who rallied to an 8-1 home win over Reedley. Jackson lost at No. 1 singles for Reedley's only point, but No. 5 singles Esteban Felix came from behind for a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 victory.

Women's Tennis

• PIRATES FALL — LeAnn Lumpkin picked up singles and doubles wins for Modesto (4-4) during its 6-3 loss to Reedley.

Golf

• MJC PLACES 3RD — Austen Cardoza shot a 78 at Rancho Murieta as the Pirates placed third during a four-team non-conference tournament won by Folsom Lake.
