-- Daffodil Hill, a private foothill ranch near Jackson that boasts thousands upon thousands of daffodils over four acres, opens the gates for its 73rd season Friday, weather permitting.

Visiting the ranch is free, but it is open to the public only until the blossoms disappear in April. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, but the hill closes when it rains or snows and the dirt paths become slippery.

Visitors may call the recorded phone message at (209) 296-7048 for updates on conditions.

Picnic tables are available, and there are only a few rules for visitors: Stay on the paths and out of the flowers, buildings and posted areas. Also, dogs are not allowed on the property, as they don't mix well with the roaming peacocks. Daffodil Hill is at 18310 Rams Horn Grade, Volcano.

For more, call the Amador County Chamber of Commerce, (209) 223-0350.
