-- The Stanislaus Math Council sponsored the annual Sixth Grade Math Blast on Saturday.

The event was held at the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Center on the Modesto Junior College West Campus.

There were teams from 17 schools from around the county. More than 180 students took part in an individual competition, the First Stage, and on a partner test, the Binary Star.

Tops in the First Stage competition were Derek Turn of Agnes Baptist Elementary, Mary English of Dan Savage Middle School and Dexter Kline of Sonoma Elementary. In the Binary Star, the top three teams were Liah Kim and Derek Turn of Agnes Baptist Elementary, Mary English and Tage Burnett of Dan Savage Middle School, and William Ladine and Victor Pak of Julien Elementary, Turlock.
