How wrong it is to fire Dennis Gervin as president of Columbia College. Dennis came up through the ranks at the Yosemite Community College District.

He is a good husband, father and person. He actually cares about getting people educated, especially young people. I know of two instances where he helped young people.

He took one young woman with her family on a personal tour of Columbia College. That young woman attended Columbia and is now serving our country and planning to go on to become a registered nurse.

He helped a young man get a needed class to graduate from Modesto Junior College. The student went on to graduate, then to Sacramento State and is now a mechanical engineer and a designer in the aerospace in industry.

I am sure that is only two of many. Isn't that the main reason we pay these people in higher education — to get our young people educated?

The only thing Dennis has done is do his job, care about people and work to better our local higher education.

Politics is the reason this came about. The taxpayers of YCCD deserve to know why we are losing a good educator.
