San Andreas -- The California Highway Patrol officers arrested a San Andreas man on charges of driving under the influence after he crashed his car while trying to pass a big rig Tuesday afternoon. Joseph Ciolino, 61, was driving a 2008 Ford Escape north on Highway 49 at 3:50 p.m. when he came upon a big rig going the same direction and tried to pass it, the CHP said. But another car already had moved into the southbound lane to pass. Ciolino saw the car and overcorrected to the right, then turned back to the left. The car overturned and came to rest, blocking the southbound lanes. Ciolino suffered minor injuries, as did a passenger in his car, Linda James, 67, of Sheep Ranch. They were taken to Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment. A second passenger in the Ford, Harlene Ciolino, 61, was not hurt. According to the CHP, officers determined that Joseph Ciolino had been drinking and arrested him on DUI charges.
