-- The Waterford Unified School District board will hold a special meeting tonight to consider shifting board member elections to even-numbered years and moving to trustee areas.

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors also would need to approve the move, according to the agenda report.

Trustees will consider a resolution saying the change would garner greater voter turnout by consolidating governing board elections with statewide general elections, which occur in even years.

The shift would extend members' terms by one year.

The board also will consider changing the election method to by-trustee-area voting.

Area divisions have yet to be decided, but would be based on the 2010 census.

The Waterford Unified School District board will meet at 7 tonight at 319 N. Reinway Ave., Waterford. See the agenda at http://bit.ly/WaterfordBoard.
