The Sonora Area Foundation has established the Richard A. Franco Memorial Scholarship available this season in Tuolumne County.

The scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors at Sonora High who have excelled academically and have demonstrated exceptional leadership ability or potential. Applicants for the scholarship will have to provide a statement on their academic and leadership accomplishments and a recommendation from an individual commenting on the student's academic and leadership skills.

The Franco family has requested that anyone wishing to donate to this scholarship fund to make a check payable to the Sonora Area Foundation, 362 S. Stewart St., Sonora, with "Franco Scholarship" on the memo line.

Any one wishing to make a gift to any of the scholarship funds held at the Sonora Area Foundation may contact (209) 533-2596.

Applications are available through high school counselors and at www. cabrillocivicclubs.org. Deadline to submit applications is March 15.
