• PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATE WORKSHOP

Where: Modesto Chamber of Commerce, 1114 J St.

Info: A free workshop will be held for anyone thinking about running for elective office in November or beyond. The workshop will include a welcome by Cecil Russell, Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive officer; a panel discussion on the rewards and challenges of running for and serving in elected office; and a presentation by political consultant Chip Langman about how to launch a campaign. • HIGH SCHOOL ELECTION CONVENTION

When: Friday, 8:30 a.m., continuing through the school day

Where: Turlock High School, 1574 E. Canal Drive

Info: Turlock High will hold its annual election convention in the girls gymnasium. This event mirrors an actual national convention. Students will elect Associated Student Body officers for the 2013-14 school year. Tom Changnon, Stanislaus County superintendent of schools, will be the keynote speaker. Visitors are welcome but must check in at the main office for a visitor pass.

• UKULELE STRUM AND SINGALONG

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Carnegie Arts Center, 250 N. Broadway
