Sheriff Adam Christianson wrote a great letter to Vice President Biden regarding gun control, writing that "individual rights and freedoms as provided for by the Constitution of the United States should never be threatened or compromised" and "I refuse to take firearms from law-abiding citizens and will not turn law-abiding citizens into criminals by enforcing useless gun control legislation."

Every individual has a natural right and obligation to defend themselves with reasonable force against violent criminal attack. As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are minutes away. The sheriff has also been responsive to community needs regarding concealed weapons permits, assisting the residents of Stanislaus County with this practical means of self-defense.

We continue to need sheriffs like Christianson who will "... relentlessly pursue criminals, seek justice for victims, protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, protect the freedoms of responsible law-abiding citizens and respect the Constitutional right of all people to liberty, equality and justice."

I applaud his stand. Christianson has been a great sheriff, and I will be happy to support him for another term in 2014.
