Court hearing today for Turlock mother accused of murder

MODESTO -- A Turlock woman assuced of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter is set to appear in Stanislaus County Superior Court this morning.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Brandy Lee Rose Devine, who is accused of murder and willful cruelty in the July death of her daughter, Stephanie Torres.

Authorities responding to a report of a nonresponsive child at Devine's North Denair Avenue home July 16 found Stephanie dead. Police arrested Devine that day.

Devine also has been charged with use of methamphetamine and an enhancement alleging that she personally inflicted great bodily injury on the child. If convicted, the enhancement could lengthen a prison sentence.

At the preliminary hearing, the judge will determine if there's enough evidence to proceed to trial.
