A body was found in the river below the Seventh Street Bridge in Modesto early Thursday evening.
A family walking along the Tuolumne River made the discovery around 5:30p.m. and called 911.
The body appears to have been in the water for Òquite some time,Ó said Battalion Chief Hugo Patino of the Modesto Regional Fire Authority.
The fire department was called to the scene to bring ropes and ladders and assist in negotiating a steep area near the river.
Modesto police homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate what Sgt. Alex Bettis said is being considered a suspicious death.
The identity, gender and approximate age of the deceased person were not known on Thursday evening (02-28-13) in Modesto CA.

MODESTO — A body was discovered in the river below the Seventh Street Bridge in Modesto early Thursday evening.
Authorities received a call at 5:30 p.m. on a report of the discovery.
When they arrived, they found a body that had been in the water for "quite some time," according to Battalion Chief Hugo Patino of the Modesto Regional Fire Authority.
The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office was called to the scene.
Police were attempting to recover the body and needed assistance from the fire department to negotiate a steep area near the river.
