Memorial tree-planting set for Modesto's Creekwood Park

MODESTO -- The public is invited to help plant a tree at Creekwood Park on Saturday in memory of homicide victim Tylor Crippen.

The redbud tree will be planted at 10 a.m. on the north side of the park near where the 18-year-old was stabbed to death Jan. 29.

Grover Landscape Services in Modesto donated the tree and the city is waiving the cost of planting it.

Crippen's family still is trying to raise money to install a bench and plaque in his name near the tree and sustain a scholarship fund for a Johansen High School senior through the Tylor Crippen-Creekwood Park Foundation.
