It's quite interesting to read articles and letters regarding the issue of Modesto annexing Salida. If I'm Salida, I would run away screaming in the opposite direction from that plan.
What does Modesto bring to the table? Half-empty shopping centers, lots of graffiti and homeless, and don't forget the 15 percent unemployment rate.
Modesto needs to fix its own numerous problems before conquering any new territories. And all of this coming on the heels of Modesto's annual selection in the 2013 Forbes list of the Most Miserable Cities in America — No. 5 this year. What, Salida? You don't want a piece of all that prosperity?
