Veteran guard Derek Fisher is back with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Fisher signed an undisclosed contract with the team on Monday. He played nine games for Dallas earlier this season and averaged 8.6 points with 3.6 assists before asking for his release in December to return to his family in Los Angeles.

The 38-year-old veteran played 20 games in the regular season with the Thunder last year after signing as a free agent in March, and also appeared in 20 playoff games.

"We are excited to welcome Derek back to the Thunder organization," said general manager Sam Presti. "He contributed to our team in various ways last season, and we are looking forward to him joining us again."

Fisher averaged 4.9 points and 1.4 assists for Oklahoma City during the regular season, then increased his production during the playoffs by averaging 6.3 points as the Thunder advanced to the NBA Finals.

A five-time NBA champion with the Lakers, Fisher was traded by Los Angeles to Houston at the deadline last year but never played for the Rockets. He was bought of his contract and joined the Thunder for their stretch run.

Oklahoma City had a roster spot for another guard after sending Eric Maynor to Portland at last week's trade deadline.

Fisher has career averages of 8.6 points and 3.1 assists in 17 NBA seasons with the Lakers, Warriors, Jazz, Thunder and Mavericks.
