I am very concerned for the sake of the city. I have seen items such as appliances covering the streets with no care for the community.

There are two garbage companies in Modesto that will pick up these bulk items for free. They are Gilton Solid Waste and Bertolotti Disposal. You can contact them at (209) 527-3781 and (209) 537-8000, respectively.

They come twice a year. It is a free service, so if you have anything that needs collection, give them a call today! They only pick up certain things such as mattresses, large appliances and toilets. There are many more things they pick up and you can check them out at the city of Modesto website or call the companies.

They do not accept televisions, but those can be brought to the Goodwill store at Floyd and McHenry.

Editor's note: Several nonprofits accept electronic waste, such as used televisions and computers, on an ongoing or spot basis. Watch for their ads and announcements in The Bee. In addition, the Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources operates an electronic waste recycling facility at 1710 Morgan Road. Items may be taken there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
