Many vets must wait for benefits

I am writing in response to the story about the Navy SEAL who has not received his VA benefits. He is not the only one who is facing this problem.

Myself and other vets submitted our paperwork for the GI bill about a month ago. The VA here at MJC has already processed our paperwork (they do a great job), but it is now up to the head offices of the VA to get the funds to us.

Usually it does not take this long, but I have still not received anything. Now I have had to drop a class, my phone service is being canceled and I have depleted all my savings.

Other vets I have talked to are facing similar problems — not receiving their GI bill funds or disability for months now. Some have even dropped out of school and are working two jobs to support their families. Others are homeless.
