If you've ever toyed with the idea of running for public office, this could be a good year for you to jump. Dozens of school board and special district seats will be filled in the Nov. 5 election.

Once again, the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, The Bee and others are sponsoring free workshops to help citizens learn about what's involved in running for and serving in an elected office.

The first of two sessions will be March 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the chamber office, 114 J St., Modesto. Although the session is being held in Modesto, it is open to prospective candidates throughout our region.

In the first part, three sitting officeholders will talk about what's involved, the rewards and challenges of this kind of public office. The second part will feature a local political consultant offering advice on how to get started.

In order to have sufficient handouts available, advance registration is requested by calling the chamber at (209) 577-5757 or emailing mlopez@modchamber.org.
