Regarding "Tomato king Salyer gets six years in prison" (Feb. 13): You can fool some of the people some of the time, Frederick S. Salyer, but not all of the people all of the time. You did find out that crime does not pay.

Did you taste something rotten as a consumer? I did. At first I blamed it on the age of my tomato ketchup in the refrigerator, but I had never had that problem before. My ketchup had always tasted good. However after I bought a fresh bottle of ketchup, it still had that rotten, rancid taste. I then turned to my tomato paste and it had a rotten rancid taste as well.

I have personally canned many tomatoes and tomatoes are about the easiest and safest to can of all fruits and vegetables, so I know the expectations. I simply switched brands to eliminate the problem.

It is unthinkable that anyone would knowingly sell and profit from selling rotten, rancid food for the public to consume.
