Wuzzz Up: Modesto High graduate earns Manilow scholarship

Conner VanderBeek, a 2010 graduate of Modesto High School's International Baccalaureate program, has been awarded the Barry Manilow Endowment at Northwestern University for the 2012-13 school year.

The Manilow Endowment, established at six U.S. universities by the entertainer, is awarded annually to a student who plans to pursue a career in a music-related field.

VanderBeek is a junior studying music composition and Asian studies in a five-year double-degree program. He is the son of Bee employees Brian VanderBeek and Sharon Ghag of Salida.
