-- The Los Banos girls basketball team overcame a 15-point third-quarter deficit to survive its play-in game Friday, beating San Juan, 56-55.

A scramble for a loose ball led to a Los Banos inbound pass with 7 seconds remaining in the game and the Tigers trailing 55-54.

The ball quickly swung around to Los Banos guard Jacquelin Arretche at the top of the key.

But when she pulled the trigger on a 3-point shot, San Juan's Dominique Contreras was there to get a hand on it.

Fortunately for the Tigers, LB guard Alexis Barcellos was waiting for the errant shot under the basket. She grabbed the rebound then laid the shot in off the glass.

"We didn't draw that up, no," Los Banos coach Danny Crosby said with a laugh. "But I'm glad it happened."

• BUHACH COLONY BOYS 78, VACAVILLE 63, at Atwater — Stephen Hillyer's open 3-pointer gave the No. 12 Thunder a six-point lead and some much-needed breathing room late in their Division 2 play-in game.

The win marked the first postseason victory in school history.

Buhach Colony, which set a school single-season record with its 19th win, will travel to Elk Grove on Wednesday to face No. 5 Cosumnes Oaks (21-6).

COACHES: PLEASE REPORT YOUR SCORES

High school boys and girls basketball coaches are reminded to report the box scores from playoff games, both home and away, as soon as possible following the conclusion of the games. Please email complete box scores to sports@modbee.com. Include a highlight or two from the game as applicable and a phone number at which you can be reached that night. It's the goal of The Bee to write a complete playoff roundup each day during the playoffs and we won't be able to accomplish this without your help.
