Firefighters are mopping up after a sprinkler head broke off at La Perla Tapatia on Crows Landing Road, soaking the cooking area of the business.

According to Modesto Regional Fire Battalion Chief Hugo Patino, the sprinkler system is designed to activate when the temperature reaches 155 degrees. It's not clear if that's what happened, because the cap flew off and firefighters haven't found it to see if the solder disintegrated as it is designed to do. But there was no fire, Patino said, and no injuries.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 9:42 a.m.

The front of the business remains open, but Stanislaus County Health officials will have to assess the damage to the kitchen and warehouse before any cooking can resume, Patino said.
