A man and a woman were arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbing a store clerk at gunpoint for a case of beer.
The pair were getting gas at the am-pm minimarket at 2033 Standiford Ave. about 12:30 a.m.
The man went inside the store, grabbed the beer and allegedly started to leave without paying, said Modesto police Lt. Rick Armendariz.
When the clerk confronted the suspect, the man allegedly pointed a gun at him.
He left the store and got in the car driven by his female companion.
Officers caught up with the suspects near Carver Road and initiated a traffic stop. The woman pulled over and surrendered to police, but the man ran from the passenger seat.
A police canine got to him a block away and apprehended him, Armendariz said.
Vickey Crabtree and Raynaldo Plascencia were arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy.
Both also had warrants for their arrest Crabtree for robbery and Plascencia for domestic violence. Plascencia also was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest.
