-- West Side Continuation School in Newman was evacuated Wednesday morning after a student threatened to blow it up, police said.

A family member of the 17-year-old suspect called the school about 9:20 a.m. to report the boy had made a comment earlier in the morning about his intent to blow up the school, said Cpl. Jason Gosselin.

The Newman Police Department was contacted, and four officers responded to the school at 890 Main St.

The suspect immediately was apprehended and the school was evacuated, Gosselin said.

The officers searched the suspect, the school grounds and classroom. No bomb was found.

About half an hour after police arrived, all the students returned to classes except the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats and booked at Juvenile Hall.
