Man arrested crawling from Modesto attorneys' office

MODESTO -- Attorneys’ offices seem to be attracting burglars these days.

Modesto police early today arrested a man they found crawling out the shattered glass door of a building, a week after arresting a pregnant woman who had broken into another downtown attorneys’ office.

According to Modesto Police Lt. Jolene Gonzales, the more recent arrest occurred at 12:30 a.m. Officers found Juan Contreras, 34, crawling out of the office door in the 1000 block of 16th Street.

“He was trying to steal a bunch of laptops,” Gonzales said. Police arrested Contreras on burglary charges.
