Mike and Debra Silva make a pretty good team. Besides being married, they were also the winners of the Sweetheart Doubles tournament at McHenry Bowl last week.

They combined for a total of 1,764, which included an 849 from Debra and 915 from Mike. Rainy Tanner teamed with Gary Pattee to finish second (1,673). Pattee rolled two no-tap 300 games and a 278 in his 878 series. Bruce and Shelley Gibbs were third (1,649).

The ladies trio of Nancy Speltz, Roxanne Grubb and Jan Vigneau took the honors in the Ladies Luncheon Tournament at Yosemite. They finished at 2,248, 30 pins ahead of the team of Kailyn Myetich, Debbie Myetich and Tina Munson. In third were Debbie Couch, Ann Zuidema and Anja DeBoer (2,200).

The Modesto USBC City Tournament will be the first two weekends of March at both bowling centers. Teams will roll at McHenry at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sundays. There are four team events: Scratch, men and mixed with five-bowler rosters and the women's event with four bowlers per team. Doubles will have three prize lists — for men, women, mixed and singles.

Doubles and singles compete at Yosemite with squads are 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sundays. Entry fee is $20 per event. Entry forms are available at both centers.

Also rolling the first two Fridays of March is the Modesto USBC Senior City Doubles Tournament hosted by McHenry Bowl. Squads will be at 1 p.m. Entrants must be 55 or older and bowl in a Modesto league. Teams can be all men, all women or mixed but with only one combined prize list. Bowlers can bowl twice, but with different partners. Entries are at the bowling centers.

The 55 and Older No-Tap competes Friday at Yosemite at 1 p.m.

The February edition of the Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite runs Sunday at noon with check-in at 11 a.m. Lanes will use the Kegel High Street oil pattern.

Modesto USBC will have its monthly instructional clinic Sunday at McHenry starting at 10:30 a.m. Bowling and instruction is $5 per person on a first-come/first-served basis.

For teachers, support staff, friends and families, the School Daze league is having fun at McHenry. The league runs Thursdays at 4 p.m. The league features three-person teams and is perfect for beginners. Call Theresa at (209) 571-2695 for more information.

It's time for youth bowlers and their parents to pick up scholarship applications for USBC Scholarships. They are due April 15. Two awards are available: The Hall of Fame Scholarship is awarded to youth bowlers who are graduating seniors and is based on their bowling record, scholastic aptitude and school involvement. The association board sets a dollar amount for the annual scholarships, and the committee sets the number of awards and the dollar amounts to be given to each recipient. The Director's Scholarship can be won multiple times from 9th through 12th grades and is open to children or grandchildren of league bowlers.
