I am disappointed in the lack of press given to the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon on Feb 2. The Bee printed a very small article about the large event. I find it appalling that you would only give a paragraph about such a great program.

Twelve high schools competed in tests on art, mathematics, English and literature, social science, science, music, essay writing, speech and interviewing skills. These students read-studied "Doctor Zhivago" over the summer and then studied very hard on topics related to Russia during the school year. They have three divisions based on grade-point averages.

I have seen front page news about Denair High's low test scores and the district's financial difficulty, but only a small paragraph on Denair High coming in first in the small schools division. These students worked very hard and deserve more press.

Denair High had many students who placed first through fifth. That is a big accomplishment, and they should be acknowledged.

Please give some credit for Denair and Oakdale High, the large-school division winner. Oakdale has won for many years and the team has tremendous support from the school and community.
