-- A double-wide trailer parked in an orchard near Keyes burned to the ground Sunday afternoon.

Ceres fire crews on the way back from a training exercise noticed a column of smoke coming from Faith Home Road and headed south around the time a 911 call alerted firefighters from the Keyes Fire Protection District.

The trailer was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 4 p.m., according to Keyes fire Chief Erik Klevmyr.

It was in an orchard across the street from a mobile home park just north of town.

The trailer was a loss, with an estimated cost of $70,000, Klevmyr said.

The trailer was vacant, but nearby residents told firefighters people had been squatting there. The power was shut off about two weeks ago, Klevmyr said.
