Young artists' works earn praise at Modesto show

— The awards ceremony for the Central California Art Association’s 38th annual Young Masters Art Show was Saturday at the Mistlin Gallery in downtown Modesto.

Johansen High School’s Alyssa Lutrell, 17, was awarded Best of Show in the Upper Division for her ceramic sculpture titled ‘Muse.’

Daniel Savage Middle School’s Valeria Gonzalez, 13, received Best of Show in the Lower Division for her pastel piece titled ‘Still Life.’ Participants, which included young artists from preschool through high school, received a certificate and award winners received art supplies and ribbons as prizes.

Categories were in painting, drawing, photography and sculpture
