KAEPERNICK SET TO PRESENT AWARD
Sure, he led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl and captivated his entire hometown region. But now Turlock's Colin Kaepernick has really hit the big time he's presenting an award at the Hall of Game Awards, an athletic awards show of the Cartoon Network, hosted by Shaquille O'Neal and Nick Cannon. Kaepernick's marketing agent, Sean Smith, confirmed the athlete's appearance at the event on Twitter on Friday morning. The show will air Monday at 7 p.m.
No. 2 O'DOWD BOYS VISIT MC TONIGHT
Modesto Christian's boys basketball team, which has held down the top spot all season in The Modesto Bee's high school rankings, will battle the best team it's seen all season tonight when it hosts Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd, ranked No. 2 in Northern California. O'Dowd, which carried a 19-3 record into Friday's game at Berkeley High, is led by 6-foot-9 sophomore power forward Ivan Rabb. The Crusaders took a 22-2 record and a 12-game win streak into Friday's game against Riverbank. Tonight's tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. The doors to MC's tiny gym will open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 adult, $3 for students and seniors.
EX-TURLOCK COACH TAKES PITMAN JOB
Tom Tyler, who compiled a 67-39 record in 10 seasons (1996-2005) as the head football coach at Turlock High, has been named the third head coach in Pitman history. Tyler has spent the last four seasons as the Pride's defensive coordinator. He replaces Brandon Harris, who will be coaching at Columbia High in Nampa, Idaho. Harris went 37-18 in four seasons at Pitman, while Larry Nigro, the first Pride coach, went 16-7 in two seasons.
