OAKDALE — An infant who died last month had excessive levels of methamphetamine in her system, the Oakdale Leader reported Thursday.
Oakdale detectives are investigating the possibility that the 1-month-old child ingested the drug from her mother's breast milk, according to the newspaper.
Oakdale police Sgt. Joe Johnson told the Leader that the child's mother has been "evasive" and recently missed a scheduled interview date. She no longer lives at the home on Obsidian Drive where the child stopped breathing last month.
When The Bee called the Oakdale Police Department to independently verify the newspaper's reports, a staff member said no one was willing to comment on the case.
Contacted later, Chief Lester Jenkins said details about an ongoing investigation never should have been released to the media in the first place. He would not confirm nor deny any of the information published by the Leader.
