Modesto JC women win, men lose to Cosumnes River

MODESTO -- The Modesto JC women's basketball team won its second consecutive game, defeating Cosumnes River College, 56-46.

The Pirates (16-7, 5-4 Big 8), ranked No. 8 in Northern California and 19th in the state, were led by Lexy Posz's 16 points. Maddie Birchall added 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

The Pirate men had no answer for Cosumnes River's Charles Standifer in a 91-75 loss.

Standifer, who transferred from the University of San Francisco after a leg injury, scored 45 points.

Mike Hill led Modesto (11-12, 3-7 Big 8) with 21 points, followed by Evan Grimes' 20.

The Pirates play host to Delta on Friday with the women at 5:30 p.m. and the men following at 7:30.
