Modesto campus supervisors deserve raises

I have been a campus supervisor for Modesto City Schools since 1994, and in the last several years, the district office has had to deal with major budget woes including layoffs, furlough days and recently, the dismissal of administrators.

And yet, there are individuals at the district office who have received thousands of dollars in raises, often disguised as "changes in job description." One employee has only worked for MCS for two years and got an $8,000 raise.

Campus supervisors, on the other hand, have not had a range hike since 1988, 25 years too long. We deal with 95 percent of all safety issues on the high school and junior high campuses. As opposed to popular belief, there are not full-time police officers on the campuses; they are shared between sites.

With all the craziness going on across the nation at school sites, we are the first to confront any and all dangers that put staff and students in jeopardy. As campus supervisors, we take great pride in our jobs, and it would be nice to have our paychecks reflect our true value.
