Does Riverbank just love the headlines or what? First they couldn't get rid of a council member; now they can't decide on a new one.
What a waste of money to have a special election. The four council members who can't agree on how to solve this problem should have to pony up $14,000 apiece, $56,000 total, to cover the cost of the special election.
Here's an idea: Since it appears certain that there will be a special election, why not put to a vote of the people that any future sitting council member wishing to run for mayor must first give up his or her seat? This simple rule would forever solve this problem going forward.
