— Police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at an intersection in south Modesto on Saturday night.

Investigators have no one in custody and don't know what motivated the shooting. They are asking for the public's help in identifying the shooter.

Officers were called to a report of a shooting near West Hatch Road and Dallas Street about 8 p.m., according to Lt. Rick Armendariz.

When officers arrived, they located the victim, a man in his early 50s, sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle at the intersection.

The man, who was traveling west on Hatch and had stopped at a red light, was shot at least once.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have been at the intersection before or around the time of the shooting. Specifically, they said they are looking for people in a truck who they believe witnessed

the shooting but left the scene.

Armendariz said police don't know if the man was shot by a person in another car or someone on foot. None of the people they talked to provided them with a suspect description.

The victim's identity will not be released until it can be confirmed by the Stanislaus County coroner and his family has been notified.

An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for today.

Police ask anyone who may have information regarding this shooting to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. Tipsters can text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a message to 274637. Type "TIP704" along with the message.
