Column repeats tasteless joke twice

Jeff Jardine, please explain to me how it is "in bad taste" to tell a bad joke at Turlock Chamber of Commerce dinner and it is OK for you to print that joke in detail (twice) in The Modesto Bee? You could have told the story without repeating all the words.
